BMX HP Seniors

The Seniors (12+) BMX programme, is a specialised training system designed to support developing BMX racers in their racing careers.

The programme is integrated into the ACT region BMX racing calendars and meet the unique demands of BMX racing.

Canberra has produced many of the countries finest BMX racing elite, but what is missing for developing racers (sub elite / pro) is a professional strength, power and conditioning system to really get the most out of an athletes career.

Designed to be the sport behind the sport, the Unbranded BMX programme is effectively a race mechanic for the race car. The racer being the car. We recognise and prise that bike time is key, but also acknowledge that at the higher end of the racing wedge, more has to be done to get the edge.

Here’s what we do:

Injury prevention and rehabilitation: Preparing the body to be able to tollerate accidents and at times, intense training. This includes flexibility, proprioception, balance, mobility, and brain to body connection.

Power production training: Developing the specific power output of the athlete. Training their neruological, muscular skeletal and physical mechanics to produce peak power per KG of bodyweight.

Strength and dynamic resilience:  Developing overall strength capacity of the athlete to enable improved power production as well as sheer dynamic resilience  be able to withstand the more physical aspects of BMX racing. Landing, bike positioning, race craft and contact with other racers and so on.

The seniors BMX programme was prototyped in the last quarter of 2016. it is based upon the learnings from that, and treacle down techniques and intents from the Seniors and Elites BMX performance programmes.

The Seniors BMX programme offers a natural progression to the elites programme, which currently has a number of local rock stars in the BMX racing scene in the ACT. Check out out Sponsored athletes page for more details.

The Senior performance programme is led by Unbranded Sports Preparations own Head Coach Ben “Iron Hobbit” Winter-Giles.

I and my three children race BMX locally in Canberra, and instantly fell in love with the sport. What I wanted to see, for the exceptional athletes in this region is an actual training system, that took the sport seriously.

One that understood that the concept of just going to a normal gym and doing some exercises that you found on the Internet simply isn’t enough. Nor is it in actual value to a BMX racers needs.

As a high performance specialist, I instantly saw that athletes potentials were just sitting there, not being fully accessed and that the pathway forward was very clear.

To produce a training system, that treats non pro / elite racers, LIKE a pro / elite racer. Give them access to superior training, that develops the right aspects of their body to really see those lap times come down, and reduce injury severity where possible.

BMX Juniors

What we discovered was that for racers to succeed at any level, there are developmental components that were missing from their preparation at school and daily lives.

The junior BMX programme was prototyped in the last quarter of 2016. it is based upon the learnings from that, and treacle down techniques and intents from the Seniors and Elites BMX performance programmes.

The programme is designed to offer a supporting training system to help junior (8-12yo) BMX racers and developing racers.

Here’s what we do

Injury prevention: preparing the body to be able to tolerate accidents and at times, intense training. This includes flexibility, proprioception, balance, mobility, and brain to body connection.

Coach ability: The athletes ability to function effectively within a coached environment. This is a mental and emotional development for a junior athlete. Teaching the athlete to understand the role of a coach, their role as an athlete as an individual and within a team. Showing them ways to be actively engaged with their training, what it’s for and why. As well as their ability to mentally engage focus on activities on their own demand.

Goal setting: Developing the junior athletes ability to self identify and declare goals, however small or large, and how to mentally connect what their doing now, to where they wanted to be.

Progression: The programme is designed to offer juniors a progression path as they develop into the Senior BMX and even Elite BMX programmes. This progression is visible and openly demonstrated to the juniors which is a powerful tool for keeping them engaged in their racing and development as an athlete.

The Junior performance programme is led by Head Coach Keira “Kiz” White.

My vision for the BMX specific kids program is to compliment this exciting sport and give them the tools to become stronger both physically and emotionally to see successes while undertaking their BMX training schedule and most importantly be ready for up coming competitions. Sessions are focused on fun and around game based activities.
I believe that if children grow up associating training with being something enjoyable and see the benefits to their bodies and health, then they are more likely to keep fitness as a priority throughout their lives.
Below are the main points I’m focused on achieving with the juniors:
Promote healthy growth and development Build strong bones and muscles Improve cardiovascular fitness Improve balance, coordination and strength Assist the development of gross motor and fine motor skills Create a happy and safe environment to develop social skills Work towards the children’s fitness goals i.e competitions.
